Wildlife in Sri Lanka is…well…Wild – Kelsey Browning

Wildlife in Sri Lanka is…well…Wild

I promised a few more details on our Sri Lanka experience (whether or not you want those details), so I thought I’d share some of Tech Guy’s pictures of our trip through the Yala National Park.

We saw:

Monkeys

And more monkeys…

Elephants

Water Buffalo

Crocs

A billion bird species (not a aviary fan. Sorry!)

Deer

Wild hogs

And yes, we were some of the few folks lucky enough to catch sight of not one, but two, leopards!

Couldn’t believe he looked right at us!

Later, after Tech Guy was gone, we were taken a few miles outside of Aragum Bay to see crocodiles. As an American, I was thinking it was a small preserve. Wrong! We were taken to a little river where the crocodiles live in the wild. No fences, no big gully, no boundary of any kind between us and the crocs. We literally walked over and around croc poop while the behemoths lounged in the water and on the other bank (thank God!). We kept joking about how fast they could run and which of our party was the slowest (sorry Tapper family from the UK, but your youngest child Noah was chosen as the sacrifice).

Good news is no one was eaten, rolled or otherwise assaulted by the crocodiles. I guess they were either too lazy or they didn’t like the looks of stringy, stressed out American meat products. 🙂

Today is National Coffee Ice Cream Day and who could find fault with that? Two of my favorite things in the world combined into one wholesome, delicious food! When I was pregnant with Smarty Boy, the first time I felt him kick was after I indulged in a big bowl of Starbucks ice cream.
