We Texans have our own language, so here at Brain Candy, I’ll slowly teach y’all how to communicate the Texas way.
So the first two Texas-isms you must know:
Fixin’ to – When I was in college my Minnesotan roommate would always ask me, “What are you fixin’—your hair?” Fixin’ to is something every true Texan uses in speech even if she’s been taught how to use “about to.”
Ex. “I’m fixin’ to cook up a mess of black-eyed peas.” or “I’m fixin’ to take this catfish down to the pond and pitch it back in.”
Y’all – Used in place of “you” or “you guys.” Get a gander at the apostrophe placement. Y’all is a contraction of “you” and “all.”
Ex. “Hey y’all, what’s for supper?”
The plural of y’all is all y’all. As in: “All y’all ain’t from around here, are ya?”

Today is Ask a Stupid Question Day – But why stop at just one? Ask everyone you know a stupid question.
To your spouse: “Are you gonna take out the garbage?”
To your kids: “Have you done your homework and brushed your teeth?”
To your boss: “When did you say I’m getting a raise?”
