Holy guacamole, y’all, it’s the end of July! Where the heck did the summer go?
As a writer, I love the back-to-school time of year (and no, not just because Smarty Boy is out of the house!). Because back-to-school means…school supplies! Cheap school supplies.
Around this time, I try to stock up on the office stuff I use most. Back when I first began writing, I had a big old long list of supplies I couldn’t live without. Now? Well, I’m a little simpler.
This is my must-have list from the school supply aisles:
- Regular 1 subject spiral notebooks – I can do either college-ruled or wide-ruled. Love it when I can pick these up for 10 cents a piece. Yep, I buy at least a dollar’s worth. 😉
- Pentel EnerGel Liquid Gel pens – in black and purple. I despise blue ink and have tossed any blue-inked pen out of my office. Hate. Them. Why no red? Because I used to teach high school and hated grading in red ink. So now I edit in purple (or sometimes pink). I figure a painful process should at least be pretty.
- Post-its – pretty much every size and shape. I use them for notes to myself, plot ideas, shopping lists. Anything and everything.
- Three-ring binders – I loosely use one binder for each book or writing project. Honestly, the best price you can find on these is normally at Sam’s or Costco.
Are you an office supply whore? If so, what are your faves?

Today is National Chili Dog Day. Hmm…I’m not a big fan of either the hotdog or the canned chili. Will you be celebrating CDD?
