Title: The Accidental Creative: How to Be Brilliant at a Moment’s Notice
Author: Todd Henry
Genre: Non-fiction, Business, Self-help
Why The Accidental Creative is a Red Hot Read: Todd Henry has written a book that should be read by creative professionals and business people who rarely consider themselves creatives. He discusses how the world’s pace requires that we produce creative solutions on demand. And that’s easier said than done. He outlines five concepts that help foster and maintain creative output: Focus, Relationships, Energy, Stimuli and Hours. My favorite part of the book is actually the planning piece at the end where Henry explains his concept of quarterly, monthly and weekly reviews. I did my first monthly review at the end of April and have incorporated weekly reviews since as well. Am I more creative as a result? Well, in that time I’ve drafted over half a novel, switched almost daily between two fiction projects and a non-fiction project, outlined multiple projects and generally kept my sanity. I’d call that success.

Today is National Chocolate Ice Cream Day so grab a cone and a handful of napkins and celebrate. I like my chocolate ice cream crammed with almonds and marshmallows. Yes, I know it’s not National Rocky Road Day, but who’s gonna stop me??
