Today, I’m packing for my trip to Chicago for the Romantic Times conference where I’m going to help out my friend Nancy Naigle with her booth for the week. If you love southern fiction and haven’t read Nancy’s book, Sweet Tea and Secrets, consider rectifying that situation.
But back to the packing…
I hate paying the baggage fees most domestic airlines have foisted on their customers, so I try to pack light these days. I’m going to use a tote bag and a carry-on duffle for a five-day trip. Impossible? Not hardly. The secret is in the shoes.
Don’t pack ’em.
Just travel in the pair you plan to wear all week. Yes, not packing five different pairs means you won’t be the most fashionable gal at the party, but you’ll probably be happier in the long run. And it means you must be very creative in planning your outfits. For this trip, I’ll wear a pair of knee-high, black suede boots with lug heels. They go with skirts, jeans and I can wear them under black dress pants in a pinch.
What are your go-to travel shoes?
Full Disclosure: I will admit to tossing in a pair of flip-flop style slippers as well.

April is National Poetry Month, so today (and possibly again before the end of the month) I’ll share a hand-crafted haiku with you :-).
This one’s for Bad Dog:
Nose high in the air
Yellow mutt at the screen door
Time slows to dog years
