Today, I’m doing the Snoopy dance (albeit with less floppy ears) because contemporary romance author Macy Beckett is here on Brain Candy chatting with me. I read Macy’s SULTRY WITH A TWIST a few months ago and was immediately in love. Not just with her hero, but the way Macy portrayed Texas (i.e. not just cowboys and cactuses). Y’all know I’m picky about my Texas-set romances. I’ve thrown more than one book against the wall because of the awful stereotyping. But Macy’s book? I hugged like it was my best-est friend.
More great news? Macy is giving away one copy of the first book in her series, SULTRY WITH A TWIST (US/CAN only and no PO boxes, please). Comment for a chance to win!
Welcome, Macy!
What’s the name of your latest release and a one-line description of the book?
My newest release is book two in the Sultry Springs series, A SHOT OF SULTRY. This is Trey’s story—you met him in the first book, SULTRY WITH A TWIST. Trey is paired with his best friend’s little sister, Bobbi Gallagher, who returns to her hometown to film a reality dating show in which Trey is the star bachelor. It’s a lot of fun, if I do say so myself.
Describe the book’s hero in three words.
Generous, sexy, laid-back.
What do you love most about writing contemporary romance?
I’m glad you asked, because I get that question from my “real life” friends and family members who wonder why I don’t quit romance and focus my career on YA (which I publish under the name Melissa Landers). I enjoy writing romance for adults because I don’t have to censor myself. Yes, sex exists in the YA genre, but not the detailed, down-and-dirty, five-page-long love scenes that I like to write. Haha. What can I say? I like big smut and I cannot lie.
What’s the last contemporary romance you read that you loved?
I just discovered Jill Shalvis, (apparently I live in a cave), and I’m working my way through her Lucky Harbor series. She’s funny—I really like her voice.
Reader question from Amy Remus: Do you model characters after people you know?
Hi, Amy! The answer is no. I take character names from people I know—for example, all three of my kids’ names are in ALIENATED, my debut YA—but that’s the extent of it.
Do you have any extras or sneak peeks available for readers?
Hmm…I don’t have a true sneak peek to share, but I’ll tell you that one of our Sultry couples has a baby in the third book, SURRENDER TO SULTRY, which releases in August. And it’s not Pru and Judge Bea. 🙂

Today is International Goof-off Day – now that’s my kinda day, especially on a Friday! What’s your favorite way to goof-off? I’d have to say mine probably includes a book (or six!) and a glass of wine. Happy Friday, y’all!
