Interview with Author Liz Talley – Kelsey Browning

Interview with Author Liz Talley

I’m super excited to announce a new feature here at Brain Candy: short interviews with some of my—and hopefully your—favorite contemporary romance writers! At least one Friday a month, I’ll intersperse these interviews with my Red Hot Reads.

And the first interview is with none other than the lovely Liz Talley. Liz is part of my GIAM (Goals in a Month) group, and I met her face-to-face for the first time in Orlando in 2010. She’s sweet, cute, fun and a fabulous writer. She has a special place in my heart because some of her Harlequin SuperRomances are set in the area of Texas where I grew up (albeit in a fictional town).

Welcome, Liz!

  1. What’s the name of your latest release (please provide link to the book on your website or booksellers’ sites) and a one-line description of the book? The Spirit of Christmas is a modern retelling of the Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol with a sexy Scrooge and a delightful heroine who plays the part of the spirits.Liz Talley - Spirit of Christmas
  2. Describe the book’s hero in three words. Jaded, lonely, sexy
  3. What do you love most about writing contemporary romance? It’s current and something in which every reader can relate in a personal way. I’m fascinated by what the reader brings to the table when reading one of my books – her experiences dictate her reaction to my characters and plot.
  4. What’s the last contemporary romance you read that you loved? The Fixer Upper by Mary Kay Andrews. I love her heroines because they’re relatable…and often digging their way out of the crap life dumps on them. Great character growth with warm Southern humor.
  5. Reader question from Amy Remus: Do you model characters after people you know? Absolutely, but I use more of an amalgamation of different people in my life. It’s more fun to fuse people together to create interesting characters.
  6. Do you have any extras or sneak peeks available for readers? I have a free online read available at Harlequin community which involves a secondary character from my Boys of Bayou Bridge series (2012). It’s called “The Nerd Who Loved Me.”  And I have a new book His Uptown Girl coming out in June – I’m really excited about the gritty, sexiness of the book.

Liz Talley writes Southern, sassy (and sometimes steamy!) stories for Harlequin Superromance when she’s not washing football uniforms, reviving wilted plants or watching The Mentalist (How do you like that for alliteration?). You can find her on Facebook, Twitter and a variety of blogs (www.rubyslipperedsisterhood.com, www.superauthors.com, and www.everybodyneedsalittleromance.com) For more information about Liz and her books, visit www.liztalleybooks.com.

Liz will drop by today, so feel free to ask her questions in the comments! My question for Liz is: Why was your first series set in Texas, rather than Louisiana?

Today is Winnie the Pooh Day, which I love because I’m just a big A.A. Milne fan. Here’s one of my favorite Pooh quotes: “If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so that I never have to live without you.”
