Don’t you just love the word “extravaganza?” I mean, it’s big. It’s bold. And for some reason, it makes me think of the circus. So I guess these next 12 Brain Candy posts will be a circus of gift giving!
I like to start the holiday gift-giving experience out by priming the pump. You know, picking out a little something for yourself so you can make it through all the shopping, cooking, and putting up with your relatives :-). My treat-yourself list this year includes something in all price ranges and for all predilections…
A new book and a cup of hot chocolate (splash of Jameson’s optional). For $5-7, you can give yourself an afternoon’s respite. So many fabulous books out currently, but how about trying a new-to-you author?
A few I love: Jax Garren, Jamie Farrell, Adrienne Giordano, Kat Latham, Tracey Devlyn, Reese Ryan, Nancy Naigle, Tracy March, Alison Packard, Tamara Morgan, Coreene Callahan, Ruthie Knox, Macy Beckett. Yes, the list could go on and on and on!
A yummy neck-warmer thing. Yes, I like to be very specific – LOL. I bought one of these Boppy-looking-things last year at a spa. You just pop it in the microwave for two minutes and then slap it around your shoulders and neck. With mine’s clove and cinnamon scent, I’m warm (and a little hungry) in no time!
A massage. Before the holiday season gets into full-out-crazy mode, relax by treating yourself to a full-body massage. If you’re feeling especially generous, many spas (including Massage Envy where I go) have special clubs, offering a reduced rate if you lock in for a year. Believe me, this is the only thing that’s kept me in my chair writing since I drove my smart car from LA to Georgia!
A new coffee maker. Nothing I love better than to make one cup of coffee, hot chocolate, or cider during these chilly days. So I’m one of those crazy Keurig fans. Mr. Coffee also makes a one-cup maker that’s a little less expensive.
A getaway. Take a quick pre-holiday weekend with your sweetie, your girlfriends, or just by yourself. Doesn’t have to be anything elaborate. One night or a weekend just far enough away from home to relax you!
Do you give yourself a pre-holiday gift? If so, what will you be giving yourself this year? If not, why not?
Oh, and in case you’re interested in my suggestions from last year, check out Day 1 of 2012’s Twelve Days of Christmas.

Today is National Pickle Day. Fun because last year, I recommended that you NOT give pickle popsicles as a holiday gift. But my pal, Caro Carson, and I have since decided we need a handful to make delicious Bloody Marys. Feel free to send us a pack!
