Let’s just tell it like it is: buying for tween and teens is a B!TCH.
I have one myself (the infamous Smarty Boy), and he gets harder and harder to buy for each year. Boys present a special challenge. So believe me when I tell you I’m no expert in this area, but here goes…
Gift cards. No, not particularly creative, but they do allow the receiver to get what s/he wants. Some suggestions: local fast food places, gas stations, other restaurants, clothing stores, movie theaters.
If your teen drives, consider pitching in for a gas or car insurance fund.
Healthy and beauty products. Try to find out what they actually like 🙂 . I will tell you that although Axe makes those popular gift sets, parents beg you NOT to buy that stuff for the teens guys in your life. If you’re going the Target or WalMart route, try for something like Nivea or Dove instead. Bath and Body Works makes several scents for guys as well. Smarty Boy likes Dark Amber.
These toiletry kits make a nice gift. In fact, they could be filled with the above products – fun!
A survival kit might be something a bit unique :-).

Today is Free Shipping Day (apparently at participating retailers). I admit it, I’m a sucker for free shipping. That being said, I figure I’d rather pay for shipping than pay for therapy after dealing with the crowds!
